Unleashed Retreat may be a haven for your beloved dogs, but our hearts are big enough for all creatures! Join us in spreading the word and learning about all the amazing ways you can join the celebration and help advocate for our voiceless furry friends.

Firstly, the month-long observances,
Dog House Repair Month
Dog houses can provide shelter, shade, and a place for your pup to relax in the backyard. Here's a short checklist of things to maintain:
1. Check for any holes in the roof, loose or splintering floorboards, and protruding nails that could cause injury.
2. If there's a bed or any bedding, wash it regularly to help prevent an infestation of fleas or other bugs.
National Lost Pet Prevention Month
Make sure your pet is microchipped and the information stays up-to-date! Check their outdoor play area for any escape routes, and if they haven't been fixed yet, keep them on a leash when exiting your home. Remember that your puppy may not enjoy the July 4th (or New Year) celebrations as much as you do.
National Pet Hydration Awareness Month
As one of the hottest months of the year, July is when you and your pup need to stay hydrated. I previously shared some useful information, but there's no shortage of ways to get your canine, feline, (or other pets) to drink water!
Then our week-long observance, highlighted on the calendar in blue,
21st through 27th : National Feed-A-Rescue Pet Week
Consider donating food, volunteering your time, or assisting in fundraising for a local shelter. It is well-known that many local shelters rely on donations to care for the animals they rescue.
And lastly, observations by the day,
1st: ID Your Pet Day
4th: International Whippet Day
6th: Coon Dog Day
10th: National Kitten Day
11th: All-American Pet Photo Day
14th: Dog on a Lead Day
15th: Feline Leukemia Day
21st: World Collie Day, National Craft for Your Local Shelters Day, and No Pet Store Puppies Day
2nd: AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) Accredited Hospital Day
31st: National Mutt Day
Remember that although not all these holidays are universally acknowledged, they're a sincere reminder of the happiness and companionship our pets bring into our lives. Share this article, connect with us on social media, and assist in spreading the word!
